About Us

Mistletoe Bay Trust

Mistletoe Bay Trust is a not for profit charitable organisation formed in 2003 when the Department of Conservation (DOC) was looking at options for the ongoing management of Mistletoe Bay Reserve and Campground. After negotiating a Control and Management Agreement (CMA) with the Department, the Trust developed plans to create a sustainable Eco Village facility. This facility with a focus on environmental education was envisioned then to project Mistletoe Bay and New Zealand as a leader in conservation, education and sustainability. The facility would offer an experience that both memorable and educational; one where visitors, young and old, would learn “hands-on” how to live sustainably within in a coastal ecosystem. That early dream has now become a reality.

The Trustees are all volunteers with a driving passion for a sustainable future and an ironclad commitment to keeping a small piece of paradise protected, yet available for everyone.

Sustainability and Conservation Practices

Mistletoe Bay is located within a pristine setting in the breath taking Marlborough Sounds. It showcases New Zealand's finest qualities: native bush, endemic fauna, clear water, solitude, recreation and peace. This Enviro Gold 4 plus Star Qualmark facility is unique in New Zealand. It is much more than a place to stay; it is an experience. Sustainability and conservation practices at Mistletoe Bay include energy conservation, with all of our accommodation double-glazed and heavily insulated, fitted with heat pumps and solar-powered water heating. Water conservation is paramount. "Recycled water" from our high-tech wastewater plant is used to flush all toilets and rainwater is collected from all of the buildings. All waste is processed carefully or recycled.

Everything at Mistletoe Bay is thoughtfully and deliberately placed to encourage positive, reduced-impact interaction with nature, showing Kiwis and foreign visitors alike that New Zealand is at the cutting edge of environmental awareness.
