Queen Charlotte Track & Other Walks

Bush Walking

We have three significant bush walks adjacent to our facility, both of approximately 40 mins to 1 hour's duration.

Both the James Vogel Track, and the Peninsula Walk provide an insight into our local flora and fauna, and they both lead back to their start points. The Vogel Track starts at the northern end of the campground, and leads through some pristine and very old remnants of virgin forest. Many of the trees are up to one thousand years old. After dark, a very short walk from the campground along the Vogel Track leads you to a stream and glow worm grotto.

The Hilltop Lookout walk is a little more challenging. It leads off the main Vogel Track and up to the main Queen Charlotte Track, one of New Zealand's best known scenic walks. Spectacular views are to be had from the summit.

Located at the top of New Zealand's South Island in the Marlborough Sounds and accessible form Mistletoe Bay, the Queen Charlotte Track offers a spectacular 71km trip through the Marlborough Sounds, from the historic Ship Cove through to Anakiwa in the Grove Arm giving unsurpassed views of Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds. Queen Charlotte Sound is the more well known of the three Sounds, and is dominated by bush-clad shorelines, deep bays and coves, ideal for exploring by sea kayak while the Kenepuru Sound is the smallest of the three Sounds.

From Mistletoe Bay walking north, allow 3 to 4 hours to the Portage, and walking south, allow 3 to 4 hours to Anakiwa. Pick-ups at these points can be arranged for your return to the bay.
