The objective of the Mistletoe Bay Trust is to preserve, maintain and promote the use of Mistletoe Bay as an important eco-system and popular visitor centre for all visitors, both local and international.
The 30,000 visitors who walk the Queen Charlotte Track each year are taking a significant toll on the wellbeing of the environment and the Mistletoe Bay Trust was formed to make decisions for the future of the Bay.
The basic aim of the Trust is to manage the influx of visitors so that Mistletoe Bay remains ecologically sound and is a facility which will be a model to the world in terms of the Mistletoe Bay experience, and in terms of our sustainability concept.
We have built accommodation and catering facilities to provide for the thousands who visit the site each year. We also offer recreation, cultural and learning opportunities so visitors can experience and understand what we have done. We see interactive use of Mistletoe Bay as a critical component to drive home the sustainability message. This exciting development reflects a combined community effort in creating a sustainable tourist and environmental educational facility which boasts the latest technology in waste and water recycling, solar power, water conservation and waste water treatment.
Actions speak louder than words: Every cent generated by the facility will go directly back into improving and maintaining the site, the foreshore and surrounding land in a never-ending cycle of environmental stewardship.
We have created an eco-friendly visitor complex at Mistletoe Bay where day users and overnight guests will experience sustainable living in a beautiful, pristine environment. The purpose-built facility will teach visitors how the ecosystem is affected every time they flush a toilet, throw away food scraps, light a fire, cook a meal, run water, or walk through the native bush.
Learning and experiencing how our every action affects our planet is the Mistletoe Bay Experience. .
