Mistletoe Eco Village has been very fortunate in receiving significant support by Sir Stephen and Lady Margaret Tindall in our development, and in particular the education programmes we offer. In 2009, our first student support fund was established by Sir Stephen and Lady Margaret to help cover the costs for children and young people who might not have been able to attend their school camp for financial reasons. Their support is much valued and appreciated.
Sir Stephen Tindall, the founder of New Zealand’s national retail chain, The Warehouse has been recognised extensively over the years for his outstanding business acumen, leadership and service to the community. In early 2019 he was elevated to a Knight Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (GNZM) in the New Year’s Honours List.
Lady Margaret Tindall trained and registered as a General Nurse and went on to do post graduate training in midwifery. She has been engaged in community work since her teenage years and from the mid-1990’s has donated her time volunteering at the De Paul House playgroup, a key work of the Catholic Diocese of Auckland which provides families in need with a place to stay and learn.
In 1994, Sir Stephen and Lady Margaret Tindall founded the Tindall Foundation which supports organisations and communities throughout Aotearoa New Zealand by way of donations, training, capacity building and research, and by partnering with others. What Mistletoe means for Marg and me; The paradise of NZ's natural beauty at its best, a cove in the Sounds that, by its very own nature is able to inspire and educate our young students in ways we can live sustainably in the 21st Century if we put our minds to it. Mistletoe gives all who visit, the ability to experience a sense of peace and enables us to truly appreciate what New Zealand is all about. Mistletoe exemplifies what can be achieved by a dedicated group of Kiwi volunteers who have a vision for our country and our people. The amount of work done by these volunteers at their own expense and in their own time is mind-blowing and demonstrates to us " the true Kiwi Spirit". Thank you all of you who have worked so hard to achieve this place of true beauty!
